AMTRAK is a passenger railroad service that provides medium and long-distance intercity service in the continuous United States and to nine Canadian cities. Founded in 1971, Amtrak today serves more than 500 destinations in 46 states and three Canadian provinces, operating more than 300 trains daily over 34,000 km of track. The Acela is AMTRAK's flagship high speed service along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) in the Northeastern United States between Washington, D.C. and Boston via 16 intermediate stops, including Providence, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City.
